Autumn 2002 Wine Series

Looking to ditch the rakes and do something other than yard work on the weekends this fall? Rialto has the answer with its Autumn wine series.

This season, Rialto's sommelier Patrick Dubsky will host three fun and informative sessions on wine. Whether you're a novice wine lover looking to polish your knowledge or an advanced taster wishing to sample some of the world's most sumptuous wines, this is the perfect series for you. You’ll taste wines and walk away with a few things you didn’t know and even pick up a few tips on selecting the right bottles for your next holiday party.

Our classes are relaxed, sociable and interactive and Rialto’s dining room provides a great atmosphere for all. To add, Chef Jody Adams will serve some of her kitchen’s award-winning tastes and pair them with Patrick’s wine selections. Rialto’s wine series kicks things off right in September with tribute to the Roman god who represents not only the intoxicating power of wine, but its social and beneficent influences as well.

Saturday, September 28 – Back to Bacchus
This is a great introduction to the world of wine. Learn basic elements of wine including history, origin and evolution. Patrick will chat about grape varieties, wine growing techniques and particular styles of wine. Before you know it, you’ll be evaluating and tasting 8-10 representative wines.

Sunday, October 20 – Tour de France
Lance Armstrong won’t be present…but, 8-10 French wines should certainly keep your interest. Learn the geographic layout of some of the world’s most amazing wine country. Answer questions like, “What’s a microclimate?” and “Is Chablis a Chardonnay or is Chardonnay a Chablis?” Follow along with Patrick as he takes you through Champagne, Loire Valley, Alsace, Burgundy, Bordeaux and southern France. Smell the bouquets, taste the fruit and analyze these wines for yourself.

Saturday, November 16 - California Drinkin’
Sit back, relax and take a trip to the west coast. Learn about California’s wine industry and what makes this sunny state different from the rest of the world. Taste your way through Napa, Sonoma, Carneros, Russian River, Monterey and Santa Barbara. Leave the surf board at home – this is one class you won’t want to miss.
